Apple season in the big apple

Insightful people may have noticed that there is one Thursday missing from the October subscription next month. I’ve been taking two weeks off a year (last week of July, first week of January) for years now. Other than that, I’ve been in my bakery every other week of the year, but I had joked around with some customers about talking to “my boss” about more vacation time now that I’ve been working here over a decade.

Of course that conversation between Bonnie the bakery owner and Bonnie the bakery employee, is a budgetary one. If I’m not working, I’m not making money, which means there’s no such thing as paid time off for a tiny business owner like me. This year I decided to see what I could pull off by being more intentionally frugal and saving as much as I could. I got really granular in my budgets throughout the year, and the kids were amazing and surprisingly supportive with checking my spreadsheets with me and locking on not making those earnest little requests that mom is powerless say no to.

All this is to say, I did it! I’m taking a third week of vacation this year! I’m taking my oldest to New York for their 19th birthday in October! I’m so excited. I’ll only miss one Thursday of bread, and October still ends up having 4 weeks with that Thursday missing.

Thank you for supporting bread subscriptions so I can count on my income for each month, which allows me to budget and plan ahead.
